At the Astronomical Observatory of Padova there is a long standing tradition of technological activities in the optical and infra-red domain, both for ground-based and space observatories. OAPd has a long experience in the design and realization of opto-mechanics, electronics, detector control systems, cryogenics and control software for optical and infrared instrumentation for some of the world's largest telescopes (like, e.g., LBT or VLT) and for space missions. This experience is applied in a number of projects currently active, which are listed below. A strong link exists between technological activities and scientific research conducted at the Observatory. This is testified by the work done on the elaboration of science cases for future projects performed by OAPd scientists and their qualified participation to the science groups of projects both on-going and currently in the conceptual stage. Besides the current projects that are the application of OAPd knowledge and expertise to endeavours of interest to the local scientific community, other technological activities are put in place by OAPd staff, in order to develop new competencies, get involved with meaningful roles in new projects for the realization of future observing facilities and instrumentation, and transfer to the Industry the know-how accumulated.
